Lahm’s Press Release?

Hamburger Abendblatt reports that Lahm, through his agent, has issued a press release in which he apologizes to the ex-coaches.

“I certainly did not want to personally insult or slander in any way Rudi Völler, Jürgen Klinsmann and other people. I apologize. For misunderstandings that have arisen in this way, I, hereby, apologize to all those involved.”

What?..

I have to think this over…

  1. this is freaking me out, really..
so i think the book won’t be published…what do you think?

    1. Oh, I think it will. In fact, I think it should be published.

  2. bierhoff said, they won’t consider dropping him as captain.. ok. i’am glad about that…

  3. sigh… i have nothing to say by now…. We fans know he never mean to hurt anyone, but this world has other rules…

      Keep your spirits up! =)

  4. That is the reasonable thing to do. Not that he has anything to apologize for. He knows. He’s just being the smarter guy here. Don’t forget, this is football, most of the people involved aren’t exactly known for their academic accomplishments. “Oh no, a current player wrote about something I did years ago, something which is true, which everybody already discussed in all detail at the time, but still: how could he?!?! I have to express how insulted and betrayed I feel because this is the first time anybody has EVER scrutinized and criticized my work in this otherwise laid-back universe that is football.” Boo-frickin-hoo.

I read the first two chapters yesterday and it was funny and witty and a bit sappy, but mostly fascinating because believe it or not, it is mostly about Lahm himself and the phases of his football career as seen through his eyes. I can’t wait to read the rest and will still be sporting my Lahm jersey IN SPITE of everyone ripping him a new one these days! (Wow, I’m getting really worked up during the process of writing my comments these days. Sorry for that.)

    1. Andi~

Thank you for commenting, as usual. I do agree that it’s a reasonable thing to do. And I am not surprised he has done it. But just imagine this: I’ve spent almost the whole night writing about it, didn’t sleep much, woke up early, and saw this “press release thing”. So, naturally, I was like, “What?! When?!..” :D

By the way, now some people are disappointed because he didn’t stand by his words but, instead, apologized =) And I’m trying to point out to them the fact that he didn’t apologize for his perspective, and that’s different =)

I have to admit I like the sappiness (is that a word? ahaha) It’s a bit nostalgic, perhaps?..

“it is mostly about Lahm himself and the phases of his football career as seen through his eyes.” –
Exactly! But people don’t get it.

About the jersey: heck yeah! That’s the spirit :D I don’t have one, otherwise I would have worn it, too. And I would be like, “Screw you, people!” :D

  5. Hey,

I don’t know if you have already the whole statement. If not, here it is:

I posted this because in your translation the important part is missing. Namely:

He is not aking to be excused for writing something about Völler, Klinsmann & Co. Rather that it is about the problem of BILD publishing some sentences of his book. I guess he should have known it better beforehand taht they will try to make a scandal out of his book, but okay. He cannot previously suspect how ‘dünnhäutig’ ein Rudi Völler will react because of this. Therefore he could have no other choice than to excuse for this sentences being out of context. I think that is okay to do so. I won’t critize him in this point.

I was a bit afraid when I read that the DFB will make soon a statement, while most of the people in Germany were calling for Philipps end of being captain. Even his suspension out of the national team. Would they submit because of the pressure form the media and do as they say? I was realy nervous. I was so relieved after reading the statement of the DFB saying that Philipp will stay captain. It is not so nice to know, that everyone of them are very upset with Philipp but I think after a personal conversation between all parts everything will be okay. The so called team internas Philipp should have written in his book are no big secrets. He did not write any personal secret he has been told by someone for example someone being gay (THAT would be real scandal ;- ) or anything else. He just wrote about the bad spirit of the team of 2008, which Lehmann and Enke have already exposed in their own biography. So it is again nothing new!!

Ah, I wanted to write someting about this part of Philipps statement:

“ehrlich meine Meinung über die Arbeit unter unterschiedlichen Trainern und zu verschiedenen Zeiten schildern und einige Hintergründe dieser Entwicklung beleuchten”

That shows to me why he has written something about his former coaches. If it really was his intention to compare different parts of his carreer he couldn’t miss out his coaches. In the parts we already know he just tells how it was working with this and that coach. I guess in the book there will be also parts in which he his praising them. Everyone his good in something but also bad. In my opionion it is a good way of showing young people who will read this book that every person is different and that it is important to get along with everyone. Even if he has no idea what tactic really means ;-)

Like I said befor, I can barely await Monday. Hope I will get it until then!

    Liebe Grüße

    Fips4Ever

    1. I do have the whole statement, but at the time when I was writing that post, the whole statement wasn’t available =) So, I just wrote what I had =))

      Thank you very much, though!

    2. Also, thank you VERY MUCH for commenting! You certainly have give me some food for thought. I feel like it will be another sleepless night for me ’cause I will be writing ahaha

  6. […] I am going to begin by quoting Lahm’s release that, thanks to Fips4Ever, is now also in the comments section. “I certainly did not want to personally insult or in any way slander Rudi Völler, Jürgen […]
